‘Whether a player is bought for Rs 20 crore or Rs 2 crore, the attitude…’: Ajinkya Rahane on Venkatesh Iyer’s price tag after KKR bow out with 105-run loss

After KKR failed in the IPL 2025, their captain, Ajinkya Rahane, backs Venkatesh Iyer as partly to blame for the result. KKR ended their season with a blunt 110-run defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 25 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Last year’s champions began the new season with a lot to prove but ended up in eighth place on only 12 points, having won five matches and lost close games many times. Cold weather and two games cancelled due to rain slowed their start.

Venkatesh Iyer hasn’t had a Great Season. Kolkata Knight Riders’ Venkatesh Iyer was one of the central topics this season because he didn’t perform and still cost the team ₹23.75 crore at the auction. Delhi picked him ahead of Shreyas Iyer, raising Miami’s trust. Venkatesh did not meet the hopes that fans had for him. He completed seven games, totalling 142 runs from 11 innings with an average of 20.29, hitting but one half-century. His strike rate of 139.21, ups and downs, and late-season injuries kept him out of the last three games.

Rahane Faces Difficulties When Supporting and Leading Ajinkya Rahane had been unsold in the first round, but was picked for ₹1.5 crore later and became captain. He said Kolkata Knight Riders didn’t function as a unit, and Rahane accepted this after losing their final match. Playing together as a team was something we didn’t do. Individually, the batting wasn’t always great, but cricket is played as a team, Rahane said. He said that losing the three close ones could have significantly influenced the team’s results if they had grabbed the chances to win.

Rahane has shown nothing but support for Venkatesh Iyer. Players will face challenging situations during their sports careers. Venky has been a top player in the football world. Cole pointed out that support for him was genuine, so people shouldn’t look at him solely because of one year.

A Disappointing Conclusion to the Elections. Their final game captured the problems surrounding their season. Otherwise referred to as Superman, Heinrich Klaasen helped pile on an enormous 278/3, remaining unbeaten with 105. As a result, the KKR side failed and scored only 168, which made SRH win by a record of 110 runs. Since their season ended so dismally, people are unsure how KKR will look ahead, with doubts about their auction choices, retaining players, and team leadership. Selecting between Venkatesh Iyer and other cricket leaders might change how they try to improve in the sport. After IPL 2025 finishes, the Knight Riders will reflect on their missed chances, bold decisions, and how much they need to change things.
