National T20 Cup record-breaker Sahibzada Farhan, who thoroughly deserved the call-up, will play for Islamabad United in this year’s Pakistan Super League. The team, the reigning champion, revealed the news on its social media pages and made it clear that Farhan will join the group as a supplementary cricketer.
Islamabad United Welcomes Farhan Back
“We take the pleasure to declare Sahibzada Farhan as the 20th member of our HBL PSL X squad,” Islamabad United declared in their announcement.
2018 was his freshman year in PSL, and he was on the same squad as an emerging player. After a short stint with Lahore Qalandars in PSL 9, he will return to Islamabad United, where he was a key player in the campaign that won them the trophy.
Head Coach Mike Hesson’s Reaction
Reacting to Farhan’s inclusion, Mike Hesson, the UC head coach of Islamabad United, reiterated the importance of squad depth.
“Sahibzada’s domestic form and experience make him someone who can slot into the XI whenever required and deliver,” Hesson added.
Farhan’s Record-Breaking Performance in National T20 Cup
Although Sahibzada Farhan was not selected on January 13 in the draft for the 10th PSL season, he was the most outstanding player in the National T20 Cup, performing for the Peshawar Region’s team.
- Runs Scored: 605 in just seven innings
- Centuries: Three (one of only five batters in the world who have accomplished this in a T20 tournament)
- Highest Score: 162 (joint third-highest individual score in T20 history)*
Islamabad United Squad Strengthens
Apart from the inclusion of Farhan, Islamabad United has been more solid. They have already joined the squad with a player lost and are therefore in a good position to win the PSL title.
The Islamabad United team’s participation in a game still depends on how Farhan is managed. But his capability to be one of the most dominant batters in the top-order position will be a bonus for the team in PSL 10.
