India’s Old fast bowler Mohammed Shami has rubbished recent media reports alluding to his retirement from Test cricket, which he says were baseless and misleading. The pacer, who is 34 years old, did not miss a chance to criticise various social media outlets for the spread of misinformation after the recent retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the longest format.
Most Woeful Story of the Day
Shami Hits Back. There are reports that Shami will retire before India’s upcoming five-Test series against England. In a strongly worded social media post, the Indian pacer responded to such talks, similar to the recent retirement of senior counterparts like Rohit and Kohli. “Very well done, Maharaj. You should calculate the days that are left in your job. One should say something nice from time to time. This is the saddest story of the day, sorry.” Shami wrote sarcastically. It is still not too late, but we can be better for our country, India. Then who is this brother, ABP baba,” he had added, trying to take a dig at one specific outlet. The remarks from the pacer have come following allegations that he might be axed from the Test squad because of his constant fitness issues, and is set to announce his retirement from red-ball cricket.
Media Reports Doubt Shami’s Future
The false reports stated: “After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, another senior cricketer, Mohammed Shami, is claimed to say adieu to Test cricket”. “Mohammed Shami can be axed from the squad for the five-match Test series against England by the selectors because of fitness.” However, Shami has come out to say that no such decision has been made and has dismissed these claims outright.
Test legacy and the status of Shami.
Mohammed Shami has had quite a career in the Test matches for the Indian team as he has played 64 before now and picked up 229 wickets at an average of 27.71. The last time he played a Test match was in the World Test Championship Final against Australia at The Oval in June 2023. Later in the same year, Shami was put on the sidelines after picking up an injury during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, even though he was one of the best Indian players of the tournament. He returned to competitive cricket at the beginning of 2025 during the T20I series with England and was part of India’s winning ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad.
Looking Ahead
There will be some major changes to the Indian Test squad for the series against England, with the retirement of Rohit and Kohli leading to new blood featuring, with some of them given chances. However, fit or not, Shami is still a valuable component of the pace attack and leadership cabal for India in the red-ball game. Shami has now cleared the doubt, and fans can now wait for official announcements for the selectors, but for now, the veteran pacer isn’t leaving anywhere.
