New Zealand’s prominent hitter, Kane Williamson, has disclosed the first five players in the next era of cricketing greats who may form the new ‘Fab Five’ (a name previously associated with him, Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Joe Root).
Even Kane Williamson is now associated with the Karachi Kings team in the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He is fulfilling his Indian Premier League (IPL) commentary assignments in India. He clarified during a press conference that the 34-year-old was requested to name four players who could lead the modern-day batting, as he was only part of the Karachi Kings squad. Williamson, on the other hand, decided to name five young guns instead.
The Next Generation of World Cricket According to Kane Williamson:
- Yashasvi Jaiswal (India)
- Shubman Gill (India)
- Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand)
- Harry Brook (England)
- Cameron Green (Australia)
“The young guns are effervescent and have been exhibiting their enormous capability with the bat and consistency from a tender age. Watching them grow and being the driving force has been an invigorating experience,” said Williamson.
String Pull of Kohli: One of the Favorites
Like Virat Kohli’s talked about flick shot, Williamson was asked to pick the same kind of shot if he could. He promptly declared that it would be the stylish flick by the Indian, Kohli.
“I think it would be Virat Kohli’s flick off his legs,” he replied with affection for the Indian legend, recognizing his immaculate, neat, and controlled batting movements.
Late Legend Cricketing Icon
Williamson also disclosed the cricketer who had a profound influence on him, pointing out that when he was growing up, he looked up to the Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar.
“My cricketing idol was a guy who played at the maidan (ground) we were just at, actually. Sachin Tendulkar, he is the legend. He’s still playing sometimes, I see,” he said, expressing his enduring respect for the Master Blaster.
Williamson continues to make a difference not just on the field but also outside, by providing thoughtful responses and maintaining a respectful persona. He shares insights about the future of cricket with insiders, while also remembering and honoring the greats who inspired him.
