In addition, Shardul Thakur comes back to head the bowling attack and gives the team extra runs at the end of the innings—new Action in the Pace Department. Missing from the list is senior paceman Mohammed Shami, who is still recovering from an injury.

Because of Jadeja’s unavailability, Arshdeep Singh and Sai Sudharsan are making their Test debuts by joining the pace unit. The team is counting on Arshdeep, who has always been in India’s limited-overs lineup and played a big role in winning the 2024 and 2025 T20 World Cups, to provide left-handed variations and accuracy—a Difficult Event for Novices. Eleven players making their Test debut in England this time will gain valuable lessons that might help shape India’s prime red-ball squad. Abhimanyu Easwaran keeps his place in the squad following his strong effort in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
