LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has placed a one-year playing restriction on the South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch who had violated the Pakistan Super League (PSL) contract by the Peshawar Zalmi without prior permission.
The player was a diamond category pick of Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi during the PSL 10 players’ draft earlier this year, and he left for the Indian Premier League (IPL) with an offer from the Mumbai Indians, leaving the PSL in the middle. The transfer was scandalous and it compelled the PCB to send Bosch a legal notice for the breach of conduct.
Following the examination of the complaint and considering Bosch’s contractual obligations, the PCB revealed a two-fold punishment: the player is not only forbidden from the PSL for a year but he was further fined (the specific amount has to remain secret because it is covered by the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)).
The PCB, in a press release, clearly announced that the all-rounder would be completely banned from participating in the PSL for the next year and fined him without citing any figures.
Through the PCB, Bosch had publicly expressed his regret for the mistake and begged the fans of Peshawar Zalmi and all Pakistani cricket fans for forgiveness.
“I am deeply sorry for my thoughtless action in withdrawing from the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) and would like to extend my sincerest apologies to the Pakistani people, the fans of Peshawar Zalmi, and the larger community of cricket,” Bosch’s statement read in part.
He also pledged to bear the full consequences and try to correct the mistakes in the coming days.
“I admit my fault and am conscious of the sanctions imposed on me, such as the penalty fine and the one-year ban from the HBL PSL,” he continued. “It is an intense stage for me, yet I am looking forward to my rehabilitation from the point of view of this matter, and in my planning to return to the HBL PSL, I expect to be someone with more commitment and fan trust.”
Zalmi locking horns with the Multan Sultans will be not affected by Bosch’s no show in any way yet still it is a major setback for Peshawar Zalmi. Nonetheless, the team is determined to go all day, in good shape, to emerge as the game’s victor. The authorities have not replied to inquiries regarding the stand-in for the fast bowler.
