In a move that marks a new era for Indian cricket, the BCCI announced on Saturday that Shubman Gill will lead the country’s Test team. The change is scheduled before the five-match Test series against England starting on June 20. MS Dhoni, now 25, will play instead of Rohit Sharma, who stepped down from Test cricket. Now, Sharma joins Test greats Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, who have also recently retired from Tests, bringing a new era to Indian Test cricket.

The game reaches a new point in time. Gill’s appointment isn’t only about a new leader; it also signals that the company is changing course for the future. Gill becomes the fifth-youngest Test captain for India ever, after legends Pataudi, Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, and Ravi Shastri. Although Gill has only captained in a handful of first-class matches, including a Ranji Trophy appearance, he has quickly shown his leadership skills in white-ball cricket.

He most recently qualified the Gujarat Titans for the IPL 2024 playoffs in his second season as captain. Ajit Agarkar said the selection panel discussed every available choice. Shubman has been a player we have considered over the last year, and we looked at him during the matches against England last year. We think that we’ve made the right choice in picking this guy. He’s had a strong career, and all the best to him.” Rishabh Pant Will Lead the Way as Vice-Captain. The squad announcement also saw Rishabh Pant return as vice-captain and wicketkeeper.

Pant, who recovered recently from a significant injury, is expected to contribute significantly to the middle order. What Does It Contain? The team consists of players with youth and experience. Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, and Shardul Thakur have been chosen, as the selectors want to try out new names. However, senior pacer Mohammed Shami has not recovered in time, with some asking whether he can make a difference in tests.

Here is India’s squad for the Tests against England: The team is led by Shubman Gill. Rishabh Pant will be the vice-captain and wicketkeeper. Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, and Dhruv Jurel are the wicketkeepers for their side. Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav. With new people at the helm, young talents coming through, and a strong England series around the corner, Indian fans have much to get excited about this summer.
