Pakistan Cricket Board has officially announced hiring an experienced coach, former New Zealand cricketer Mike Hesson, as the new white-ball head coach for the Pakistan men’s team. The appointment takes effect immediately, and Hesson will begin on 26 May.

    PCB Chairman Welcomes Hesson

The news has been confirmed by the Chairman of PCB Mohsin Naqvi via the social media X and he is happy with the addition to the national setup. Speaking to the press, Naqvi said,” I am glad to announce that the former New Zealand cricketer and well-known coach, Mike Hesson, will come to join us as the new White-ball Head Coach for the Pakistan National Team”. We are expecting his inputs and guidance in grooming the Pakistani cricket team. Welcome to the team, Mike!”

    PSL Final Shifted T20I Series

Hesson’s appointment arrived only days before Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which was supposed to start on 25 May 2021 in Faisalabad. However, due to a clash of schedules with the finals of the Pakistan Super League 10 (PSL10), which was rescheduled to May 25, the T20I series will also be rescheduled. New dates will be released very soon.

    Proven leader with global experience

Mike Hesson is the best appointment to the coaching post, with an impeccable coaching record. He was a head coach of the New Zealand national side between 2012-2018. after John Wright. The Black Caps had reached record heights throughout his tenure, from the team’s first-ever final qualification in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. Having completed his spell with New Zealand, Hesson got into the coaching role in the Indian Premier League and continued to show tactical prowess in high-stakes nations. His ability to work with different teams and construct competitive teams has earned him respect on the international front.

Smart Move Ahead of the World Events

The recruitment of Hesson is considered a strategic decision by the PCB to revive the life of Pakistan in the whit-ball performance when international engagement is extremely busy. With games like the T20 World Cup looming around the corner, his experience is likely to play a key role in the formulation of strategy for the team, is likely to help foment a future lot of stars, and set up a winning spirit. With Pakistan going into a new era under the watch of Hesson, the cricket fans and pundits can’t wait to see if the effect will likely bring a turnaround to Pakistan’s white-ball fortunes in the coming months.
