One of the biggest pieces of news we’ve heard in PSL season 10 is that defending champions Islamabad United have revealed they will be using West Indies all-rounder Kyle Mayers as a substitute for Rassie van der Dussen and Matthew Short for the rest of the tournament.
It was the franchise that directly confirmed that Rassie van der Dussen from South Africa would be participating in the remaining season due to personal reasons. Additionally, Australia’s Matthew Short is also out of the tournament, and therefore, a foreign replacement will be included in the squad to fill the vacant space.
Mayers has been included in the United Squad to play in Lahore
Kyle Mayers is slated to be in Lahore in the lead-up to the sixth match of Islamabad United in the PSL 10 campaign. Mayers, who is reputed for his destructive batting and canny medium pace, is likely to be the missing piece that the team has been looking for as they dominate the competition.
Rassie Gets Hesson’s Back and Mayers is Welcome
The head coach, Mike Hesson, has lent full support to van der Dussen and emphasised the team’s concern for the player’s welfare first, rather than focusing solely on cricket.
“We are 100% behind Rassie and his family. Rassie is in a difficult time, and at such time,s the game is not a big deal,” Hesson remarked.
Regarding Mayer’s acquisition, the head coach underscored the positive aspects of the West Indian’s presence in the team.
“We have performed excellently in the tournament so far, but we are not ready to lose our focus, and we have decided to play it safe. Mayers is a T20 specialist over several months, and his presence will make us stronger and more balanced,” he stated.
Rehan Ul Haq, the team manager, backed up Hawkins’s confidence and mentioned Mayers as the best pick for Islamabad United’s team.
“Kyle Mayers is perfect for Islamabad United. We are on our way to victory in the PSL 10, and his being here will increase our chances even more,” stated Rehan.
United Are Still Undefeated and Defiant
For the time being, Islamabad United is led by Shadab Khan and is currently unbeaten in the entire tournament. It has positioned itself well to win the title. The team is in pursuit of its fourth PSL title, and a move like Mayers’ addition, a T20 professional, could be an ideal choice for keeping the momentum going.
