DUBAI: Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer was announced as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March 2025. The award was given for Iyer’s important part in India’s successful Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.
Iyer beat the challenge from New Zealand’s excellent all-rounder Rachin Ravindra and the very first bowler of the tournament from New Zealand, Jacob Duffy, to receive the top prize for the month for his solid performances with the bat.
India’s 29-year-old player became the first player of the national team to gain the highest number of runs, scoring 172 in 3 matches at an average of 57.33 and striking the ball at a rate of 77.47.
The most remarkable of his runs was smashed during the group match against New Zealand—an unbeaten 79 to anchor the Indian innings. Furthermore, he eponymously helped the team overcome the real challenge—a powerful 45 in the semi-final match with Australia and, of course, an indispensable 48 in the final stage, where he was once again the Kiwis’ executioner. India defended its title for the third time in the Champions Trophy.
Iyer’s response to the prize
Key to his happiness and thankfulness, Iyer said that being recognised as ICC Player of the Month in such a title-winning month was the real bonus of the recognition.
“In fact, I’m really very proud to be announced the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March. My big thanks go to the people who have chosen me, especially the ones who are with me when celebrating the ICC Champions Trophy,” said the athlete in an interview.
Then he diverts the conversation to the help in Indian cricket by saying:
“Participating in the winning of India on this huge stage is a dream of every cricket player. As a matter of fact, I am deeply indebted to my team members, who never lack trust in me, coaches, and support staff for wholehearted faith and succor.”
He also expressed his gratitude to Indian enthusiasts from all corners of the globe in a particularly warm manner:
“A big thank you from my side as well to the fans, your spirit and words of inspiration are the things that motivate us at each and every stage of our journey”
Shreyas Iyer has been a rock-steady pillar in India’s middle-order, and his latest accolade through the ICC only adds more to his standing as a mainstay in the national team’s one-day set-up.
